About a year after the first Covid-19 wave, WeeShare is registering a new upswing in sharing: new users are joining daily, the app is more in demand than ever and our savings and CO2 calculator is running at full speed.
Last year, there was little sharing on WeeShare - a logical consequence of limited mobility as well as concerns about health and the risk of catching something somewhere. The Covid19 pandemic has led to many people working from home of fices instead of commuting to the of fice. Public transport has been avoided and travel largely dispensed with. Restrictions, limited social contacts, mandatory masks and the general helplessness in the face of this new, unknown challenge have caused a temporary withdrawal from the share economy.
For some months now, WeeShare has been registering a strong trend towards sharing again. It seems that the initial shock is over and we have adapted to the new «normality». Covid-19 has, as various studies are now already showing, changed the behaviour of our society. The crisis has led to a structural rethinking, both in the area of mobility and in general lifestyle. There is a clear trend towards conscious, environmentally friendly and resource-saving behaviour. This also includes the motto of the Share Economy and WeeShare in particular: Sharing instead of owning, lending instead of buying.
The reason why sharing is booming again after the low in 2020 is that we know more about Covid-19 today than we did at the beginning of the pandemic. New scienti fic findings, vaccinations and the understanding that protective measures such as wearing masks, regular hand washing and social distance do help in the fight against the virus make it possible to share again without worry.
Statistics reveal that after the first Covid-19 wave, interest in the shared-object sector has plummeted. However, since some month, WeeShare has been experiencing a resurgence and has been able to post new user highs.
Use of WeeShare in everyday life
WeeShare has made a name for itself in recent years, especially in the area of privately shared objects. Groups or people who use something together - this can be a car, a holiday flat or a household item - can arrange this via the free WeeShare-App. Thanks to the integrated booking system, it is easy to see who can use what, when and for how long.
In addition, there is the possibility to allocate costs and expenses directly to a group. A recurring problem in connection with joint activities or shared items. Who owes whom how much, who has already paid what and what if someone wants to withdraw? The expense allocator integrated into the app is easy to use, detailed and dynamic. Added expenses are automatically distributed, users can be added or deleted.
Other functions, such as the positioning system, gives participants the possibility to specify the exact position of an object via GPS. This plays an especially important role in the area of shared vehicles. Distances travelled are recorded and the costs per distance are automatically calculated and distributed among the drivers. Especially since sharing involves different parties, it is important to create clear general conditions right from the start.
A good example of the private use of WeeShare in everyday life are cooperatives and shared housing. Whether it is the use of the washing and drying machines, the common rooms, the pingpong table or the communal cars: With the WeeShare app, users can check availability, reserve and, if necessary, pay for it right away.
Sharing in times of Covid-19
In order to provide guidance to our users in times of Covid-19 and to set the conditions for safe sharing, we are in the process of developing a practical guideline for sharing in order to ensure the safety of our users in the best possible way. It is important to keep the risk of infection as low as possible. For example, in shared cars, the steering wheel, gear and door handle should be cleaned after use and the car should be well ventilated. The same applies to shared rooms and objects.
WeeShare business and contribution to the environment
The fact that the share economy is experiencing a general upswing is also shown by the positive response to the newly developed WeeShare Business. Companies are increasingly interested in environmentally friendly and alternative solutions in the field of infrastructure, sharing potential and know-how and saving resources.
So sharing is back in vogue: and this confirms once again that we have been on the right path with the WeeShare philosophy «Sharing is Caring» for almost ten years. The WeeShare savings and CO2 calculator is working at full speed again (WeeShare saves millions and greatly reduces CO2 footprint) and our commitment to sharing and saving resources is paying off: the latest release was met with great interest. New users are joining every day - which in turn means that people are sharing more and thus saving capital, the environment and nature at the same time.
We thank our WeeShare community for their support!
